Rod Lane Girls Minimon, Samurai Judo Club (20/11/2005) email to someone | printer friendly
On Sunday 20th November 2005, Charlotte, Sam M, Maria, Taylor, Rebecca H, Rebecca G, Abigail and Zanna made there way to a cold, foggy Kidderminster for the The Rod Lane Memorial Girls Minimon & Senior Kyu Grades Competition. Samurai events are always well attended and this one seemed better attended than ever even without taking the weather into consideration.
Charlotte was the only person in the under 25kg catagory so was elevated to the under 28s and a chance to pit her wits against bigger competitors. Several determined fights saw her win her group only to loose in the semi-finals where size was the winning factor over skill. Abigail fought in the same catagory but despite her best efforts she lost her fights but in the progress gained valuable experience.
Taylor, like Abigail the previous week, made her debut in the competitive arena and despite her defeats gave a good account of herself which bodes well for the future.
Rebecca H, competed in the under 34kg group and in the qualifying group secured two good wins and a defeat that'll she put down to experience. In the semi-finals she narrowly lost but secured her first competitive bronze medal.
Rebecca G and Zanna were fortunatly drawn in seperate groups, Rebecca won all her fights to top the group and Zanna lost only one to finish second and earn a semi-final fight with Rebecca (again). The semi-final went to distance and Zanna evenually triumphed with a wazari. In the final she lost for the second time to the same competitor but secured silver for herself and Rebecca won bronze.
maria reached the semi-finals in her weight class and acheived bronze and Sam again fought against tough opposition and won bronze.

Bradley Stoke Competition 13th November 2005 email to someone | printer friendly
A 90 mile trip down to the outskirts of Bristol saw several of the 3K's girls compete at various weights at the Bradley Stoke Judo Club Mini Mon.
Three mats were set up but for some reason only two were used for the first couple of hours which made for a late finish but the event was very well attended and the quality of judo high. However, well organised competitions saw some weights merged to ensure competitors had plenty of fights whilst not loosing out on medals in their weight catagory.
Competing for 3K's were the two Charlottes, Kim, Zanna, Samantha, Rebecca and Abigail. Abigail was making her debut in competition since turning 8 last month. She gave a good account of herself and walked away with a bronze medal at the end of the day. In the same group Kim won gold. Charlotte (half-pint) fought above her weight due to the merging of groups and acheived gold in her weight class. Rebecca and Zanna were again in same weight class but the luck of the draw kept them apart and congratulations to Zanna on winning silver and to Rebecca on her bronze. Samantha had the daunting draw of the day having been grouped with with some very experienced Judogi from Samurai, she put in a very spirited effort to win a bronze medal.

Newsletter - Summer 2005 email to someone | printer friendly
We're very lucky to have been represented at the World Master's Championships in Canada by both Jason Allen and Rob Holden. They reported back telling us that the standard was extremely high. They both did very well, no medals this time unfortunately, but they will be taking part in the European Championships in Gatwick in November which we wish them the best of luck in as they deserve it!

In the seniors, Paul Irving and Steve Tooth have recently qualified as Referees we're pleased to announce. They make welcome additions to our collection of Junior Referees, some of whom qualified last weekend, namely Tom and Sam, Rebecca and Samantha. As well as this, Diggs Sindon passed the table official course on the same day. Well done to you all!

In both junior and senior sections of the club members have been climbing the grades recently. Sean, Daniel and Gemma have done well at recent gradings along with Rebecca, Zanna, Sam and Tom. As a result the club can happily now lay claim to some high junior grades, which is promising for the future. In the seniors we have had several promotions, such as Rob, Simon and Gordon, with some judoka only needing their theory complete to gain their black belts, for instance Mehran and Zviad. All in all the seniors are becoming stronger, successfully representing us in many competitions in the past year.

Richard, Jack and Zviad took part in the National Teams Competition recently, representing both Karu Kyoshi Kan and the Midland Area. It was a very hard competition and the atmosphere was amazing. Our players fought well so congratulations to you!

Good luck to all those competing in the Heart of England at the National Indoor Arena this September and this weekend we have several players entered in the Midland Area Kata Competition.

Well done to Bill Webb our chairperson and senior coach, who was recently awarded the title of British Schools Judo Coach of the Year 2005 by Densign White, the BJA chairperson. Bill has put in a lot of work for years and years in the spirit of Judo and I'm sure you'll all agree that this is an incredibly well deserved prize, the plaque of which you can currently see in the Dojo.

Several Judo DVD's are available if you would like to borrow them from the club at £2. These allow you to study Kata, watch competition techniques and see some absolutely fantastic international level judo from the best in the world.

For any more information or enquiries regarding the club, don't hesitate to ask one of our coaches.
